IE Registrars - Interested in becoming a .ie Registrar?
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Registrar of .ie domain names.
What is a Registrar? An accredited IE Registrar is a company, organisation or individual who have demonstrated the knowledge, experience and expertise in managing .ie domains as agents of the registrants.
Getting started as a .ie Registrar You are welcome to register domains on behalf of your clients directly with us via our website. Initially, the registration and subsequent annual maintenance fee for a .ie domain name is the full retail rate of €62.00 plus VAT @ 21.5%. Please note that we do not charge in addition to this fee for any modification or deletion incurred during the year.
Alternatively, the IEDR recommends that the best way to start selling .ie domains may be via an existing Accredited IE Registrar. Existing IE Registrars are eligible to receive our discounted rate and may choose to negotiate a rate with you, to register .ie domains through them.
Full Registrar Status The IEDR places a high value on its Registrar Programme. Registrars are obliged to display a clear commitment to promoting the .ie domain name. The minimum level of registered .ie domain names for full Registrar status is 200 domains.
To qualify for Registrar status, an applicant must:
- Have registered at least 200 .ie domains, or be the current Billing Contact on 200 .ie domains.
- Provide a Deposit of €2,500, and agree that it may be used to pay for .ie renewals in the event of liquidation, receivership or other similar event. The deposit is refundable if Registrar status is withdrawn or terminated.
- Pass a credit check.
- Display a detailed knowledge of the IEDR policies and procedures.
- Display a detailed knowledge of the IEDR registration rules and requirements.
- Display a detailed knowledge of DNS and relevant technical issues.
Registrar benefits include:
- Substantial discount off .ie IEDR domain registration retail price.

- Company will be listed on the IEDR website as an Accredited Registrar of .ie domains.*
- Permission to use the IEDR's .ie logo in all promotional literature.**
* Subject to maintaining over 200 domains. ** This is subject to the .ie being the only TLD included in this literature.
Application process for achieving Registrar Status.
To support your application for Registrar status, the IEDR requests that you complete and submit a Registrar Application Form and a short business proposal that outlines the specifics of your business plan.
You will note from this application form that some of the information required is as follows:
- Length of time you have been registering domains.
- Number of .ie domains currently registered.
- List of those domains.
- List of billing NIC-Handles your company uses for billing purposes.
- Number of domains you realistically project to register per month.
- An indication, where possible, of where you see your predicted business coming from. For example, from Irish or foreign business.
At this point, it is highly recommended that you include any marketing/promotion projects you have in mind to promote .ie over the next three to twelve month period and your commitment to the registration of .ie domains.
